Are Spiritual People Violent?

Spiritual people can be some of the most violent people you will ever meet. Mostly, they are violent to themselves. They violently try to control their minds, their emotions, and their bodies. They become upset with themselves and beat themselves up for not rising up to the conditioned mind’s idea of what it believes enlightenment to be. No one ever became free through such violence. Why is it that so few people are truly free? Because they try to conform to ideas, concepts, and beliefs in their heads. They try to concentrate their way to heaven. But freedom is about the natural state, the spontaneous and un-self-conscious expression of beingness. If you want to find it, see that the very idea of “a someone who is in control” is a concept created by the mind. Take one step backward into the unknown.” Adyashanti

BeatYourselfUp

How do you feel when you read the words from Adyashanti above?  My first thought was, “wait a minute, the spiritual people I know aren’t violent”,  and I’m spiritual and I don’t think of myself as “violent”.  But then as I read further I realized that I certainly have “beat myself up” at times for not responding spiritually to a situation, or for simply “re-acting” in the same old way, even though I now know better.

My “conditioned” mind now accepts that I am the creator of my reality, but it also uses that knowledge to demonstrate my lack of control when it comes to reacting to my creations.  I’m often quick to judge a work in progress, instead of relaxing and trusting that all is well.

When I attempt to judge and control the unfolding, I move further and further from the vibrational vicinity of what I have been trying to create.  The ego/mind loves to take charge and control how our manifestations will occur.  It wants to “help” the process along, and make sure that the universe “does it right”. How crazy that the ego mind believes that it can do a better job than the organizing power of the universe.  Yet trust and surrender seem to equate to giving up on what we are wanting, and we simply aren’t willing to do that.  (Even when the very act of controlling it actually keeps it from showing up).

It truly is a leap of faith to trust the process, and to know that everything is unfolding perfectly…especially when there isn’t any evidence in our current reality.  It is at these times that we need to affirm the truth of who we are, and our role as co-creators in this cooperative universe.

We need to understand that we are vibrational beings, and that we create through vibration, not through action.  We need to trust our own internal guidance system, and acknowledge that when we feel good we are headed in the right direction.

As we learn to let go and trust that everything is unfolding perfectly, then we open the door to allow our higher self and intuition to light our way.  The right action steps are revealed, and we work with the flow of creation instead of trying to “make it happen”.

Life unfolds with grace and ease, and as we look around in gratitude we see that we already have all that we were asking for.   How amazing that it showed up when we were even paying attention!

There was a time when I remember thinking, “How can I ever create the life of my dreams when I am powerless to control all these thoughts?”….
